Chapter History

Chapter History

The Installation of our Alpha Xi Chapter on June 14, 1924 marked the second national sorority to join UCLA’s campus. This chapter was established after the women of Gamma Lambda Phi, a local sorority on campus, petitioned Alpha Xi Delta to take over their chapter. The Sisters of Alpha Xi Chapter represented a variety of studies and were involved in honors curriculum. During their time on campus, Alpha Xi Deltas were active in academic clubs, social clubs and held leadership positions on their campus. Sisters served as the woman’s editor of the Daily Bruin, Daily Bruin staff reporters, president of the Panhellenic Council and chairman of Panhellenic committees. From hosting Founders’ Day at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel to Panhellenic Formal at the Los Angeles Biltmore, the women of Alpha Xi Chapter were considered to be one of the most active sororities at UCLA throughout the more than 50 years they were on campus.

In 1980, the chapter was closed due to a decline in membership. We look forward to coming back home to UCLA in the fall of 2016 and reviving our tradition of inspiring women to realize their potential.
